Steel Train

Steel Train
Steel Train is a five-piece indie-rock/folk-rock band from New Jersey. Friends Jack Antonoff and Scott Irby-Ranniar began playing street shows together in New York City in 1999. They adopted the name Steel Train from a Sublime song, and amongst an array of offers from record labels, they chose to sign to indie label Drive Thru Records (but left the label in late 2009). They released their first EP, For You My Dear, in 2003. In 2004, they released the EP 1969, a CD of covers of songs all originally released in 1969. Their two full length CDs, Twilight Tales from the Prairies of the Sun and Trampoline in 2005 and 2007, respectively.
Their sound is described by Yahoo Music as being similar to "Southern rock revivalists" Kings of Leon and My Morning Jacket, but with a definitive post-punk twist. Their music is also described as "classic radio rock sent through a few hipster fuzz pedals". SPIN magazine states that they borrow as much from Bob Dylan's style as Fall Out Boy's.
Steel Train consists of:
Jack Antonoff - vocals, guitar and piano
Evan Winiker - bass
Daniel Silbert - guitar
Jon Shiffman - drums
Justin Huey - vocals, piano, Wurlitzer
On the tabloid side of fame, Jack Anatoff dated actress Scarlett Johansson, and explicitly mentions her in numerous songs on Trampoline.
Steel Train is currently working on songs for their third full-length, the progress of which is being tracked on their studio blog.
Check out their music on MySpace, PureVolume, iTunes, etc.
